The Yulee Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Stanton by a score of 51-48. Yulee was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Stanton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.
Yulee's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ace Walker, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Shane Gumbs was another key contributor, scoring three points along with nine rebounds.
It was another big night for Raza Cottey, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds for Stanton. That makes it three consecutive games in which Cottey has scored at least 25% of Stanton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Hayes, who scored 16 points.
Yulee has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Stanton, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Yulee won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Middleburg at 7:30 p.m. on January 4th. Middleburg will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Stanton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against KIPP Bold City at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. KIPP Bold City knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Stanton likes a good challenge.
