Basketball Recap: Wagon Mound Comes Up Short

If Wagon Mound was feeling good fresh off their 96-14 takedown of San Jon last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wagon Mound Trojans were outmatched by the Roy/Mosquero Blue/Lady Blue and fell 73-39. The Trojans were down 56-27 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Wagon Mound had strong showings from Eugene Armijo, who posted 11 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, and Dominic Jaramillo, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 10 points and seven rebounds. Armijo has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Jericho Martinez was another key player, putting up 11 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Wagon Mound smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Wagon Mound dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Roy/Mosquero, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

Wagon Mound didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-44 loss against Cimarron on the 27th. As for Roy/Mosquero, they will take on Maxwell at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Roy/Mosquero comes in on eight and Maxwell on 13.
