The Munford Cougars will face off against the Northpoint Christian Trojans at 4:03 p.m. on Friday. Munford is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
While Munford didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Millington Central a 9-0 shutout on Thursday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Gabriel Jones made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Kate Billings, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since March 3rd. Kaitlyn McCain also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Munford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Millington Central only managed nine hits.
Meanwhile, Northpoint Christian didn't have quite enough to beat Lewisburg on Thursday and fell 6-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost four in a row.
Northpoint Christian saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Bennett, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Munford's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Northpoint Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Munford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Northpoint Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .387. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Munford came up short against Northpoint Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 9-6. Can Munford avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
