The West Ashley Wildcats lost against the James Island Trojans back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. West Ashley took a 41-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of James Island. While losing is never fun, West Ashley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while James Island is ranked 21st).
West Ashley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lacy Gerald, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabbie Chinnis, who scored ten points.
It was another big night for Andrea Duncan, who scored 20 points along with four steals for James Island. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which Duncan has scored at least 25% of James Island's points. Another player making a difference was Madisyn Smith, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for West Ashley and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for James Island, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3.
West Ashley is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Stall at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Stall and West Ashley are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for James Island, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on May River at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th. May River is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
