The Madonna Blue Dons will take on the Catholic Central Crusaders at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Madonna is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Madonna beat Monroe Central 6-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Blue Dons.
Reed Wilharm spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mathew Geer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was David Connors, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Oak Glen hit Catholic Central with a four-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Crusaders fell just short of the Golden Bears by a score of 7-6.
Matthew Jones was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Mason Meeks was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Catholic Central dropped their record down to 3-9 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Madonna, their win bumped their record up to 20-4.
Catholic Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Madonna has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. It's a different story for Catholic Central, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Madonna's hitters?
