The Holy Name Green Wave will venture away from home to face off against the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Holy Name is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Holy Name is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions.
Bailey Garlow was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Anna Soos also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 13-2 win. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Lily Siemen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Bianca Czarnecki was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Sarah Bronowski was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy pushed their record up to 12-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Holy Name, their loss dropped their record down to 16-4.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Holy Name has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .438. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Holy Name came out on top in a nail-biter against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Green Wave since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
