Even though the Sandia Matadors have not done well against the Volcano Vista Hawks recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Sandia simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Volcano Vista 82-53 on the road. With Sandia ahead 46-23 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Sydney Benally had a dynamite game for Sandia, scoring 23 points along with 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Hope Giddings was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Sandia and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Volcano Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Sandia will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Valley at 5:30 p.m. As for Volcano Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against Eldorado at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
