The biggest upset of the week belonged to Harlingen South, who took down 502nd ranked Harlingen South, 38-23. Brandon Garza threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 31 yards in the win.
The Hawks' Jaedon Taylor recorded the longest rushing play in 5A Region IV District 32 this season in his game against Harlingen last week. Taylor's team lost to the Cardinals as he sprinted for 70 yards on the play and finished with 102 in all.
Harlingen's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Dion Conde chipped in 157 yards. Brandon Vasquez helped Harlingen's passing attack out by catching five balls for 46 yards.
Mark Rosales was the best wideout in the league this week as Manny Gomez's team beat Lanny Wilson's team. Rosales tallied two receptions for 88 yards.
Brandon Rodriguez made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Hawks fell to the Cardinals. The junior recorded one fumble.
On the ground, Harlingen South's Taylor has rushed for 1209 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nick Garcia. The Harlingen South star has 30 catches for 589 yards.
Next week's game between Los Fresnos and the Hawks will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as Jonmichael Rosales tests his arm against Garcia's defensive ability. Los Fresnos' Rosales has recorded 1362 yards and 16 touchdowns this year, while Harlingen South's Garcia has five interceptions to his name.
A big matchup in 5A Region IV District 32 this week will be when Los Fresnos takes on the Hawks. As it stands, Clint Finley's team is in third, while Harlingen South is in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Falcons take on the Hawks. Los Fresnos has allowed 125 points this season, while Harlingen South has given up 115. The Falcons allowed 0 points last week as they defeated Porter.
