Softball Recap: Payson Finds Home Field Redemption Against San Tan Foothills

There's no place like home for Payson, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They never let the San Tan Foothills Sabercats get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Longhorns have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kinikki Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Holdyn Waterman was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Caelee Boyle, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Payson's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for San Tan Foothills, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Payson will square off against rival Bourgade Catholic at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, San Tan Foothills is set to challenge their familiar foe ALA - Ironwood at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
