The Nottoway Cougars were the 74-68 winner over the Buckingham Knights when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Nottoway took a 65-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Buckingham on Tuesday. Nottoway has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Nottoway lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anton Carter Jr., who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Carter Jr. is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jahmarion Wright, who scored 15 points along with four steals.
Nottoway has fallen quite a ways from their 16-5 record last season and are now at 3-9. As for Buckingham, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nottoway and Lunenburg Central will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Lunenburg Central is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak. As for Buckingham, they will head out on the road to challenge Appomattox County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
