Hazen is 0-3 against Issaquah since May of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The Highlanders will head out to take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hazen came out on top against Mercer Island on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Highlanders never let the Islanders get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Highlanders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.
Mercer Island's batters probably weren't too happy with Sam Nicholson, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 12 Ks (he gave up zero walks). Nicholson also allowed no hits, which is notable because Hazen is 3-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 3-7-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rydan Corwin, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Hazen: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Alvin Chang, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Issaquah, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Mount Si 1-0 on Thursday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Not much got past Hudson Carvalho, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Mount Si off the board. Carvalho has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Issaquah saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Seika Saito, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Issaquah now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Hazen, their record is now 6-8-1.
Hazen's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's game. The Highlanders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Issaquah, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hazen continue to outrun the ball?
Hazen suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Issaquah in their previous matchup back in June of 2021. Can the Highlanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
