The Springstead Eagles lost a heartbreaker to the Lecanto Panthers when they met back in January of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Friday. Springstead fell to the Panthers 52-48. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Springstead in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost four in a row.
Springstead lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Niko Cordello, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Nick Cordero, who scored 13 points.
Lecanto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Christian McAboy led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McAboy has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Moore, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Springstead's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Lecanto, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springstead will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Tornadoes at 7:45 p.m. on January 29th. As for Lecanto, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Columbia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
