The Lafayette Generals will face off against the Franklin County Flyers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lafayette will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Lafayette is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kentucky's top teams: Montgomery County, who was ranked 18th at the time (Lafayette was ranked 17th). The Generals blew past the Indians 14-7 on Tuesday. Considering the Generals have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Addison Combs, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Aarilyn Waletich-Silverio, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Lafayette lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Franklin County came up short against Montgomery County on Friday and fell 9-4. The Flyers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Emma Olds made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Avery Lofton was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Lafayette pushed their record up to 20-7 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Franklin County, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lafayette hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Franklin County struggles in that department as they've averaged .378. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lafayette came out on top in a nail-biter against Franklin County in their previous meeting back in May of 2019, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Generals repeat their success, or do the Flyers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
