Baseball Game Preview: Douglas Bulldogs vs. Safford Bulldogs

We've got a battle between Bulldogs coming up. Douglas will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Emiliano Fimbres was a standout: he scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Robert Rodriguez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Douglas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Casa Grande only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, Safford might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was Show Low who claimed the real prize. Safford fell 10-7 to Show Low. Bulldogs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cougars since on Friday.

Safford saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Arbizo, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Arbizo is becoming a predictor of Safford's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another was Andrew Trujillo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Safford has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. Douglas' win bumped their record up to 7-4-1.

Safford's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Douglas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. It's a different story for Safford, though, as they've only averaged .223. Will they be able to contain Douglas' hitters?

Everything went Douglas' way against Safford in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Douglas made off with a 12-4 victory. Does Douglas have another victory up their sleeve, or will Safford turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
