The West Grand Mustangs won the last time they faced the Moffat Cowboys, and things went their way on Friday too. West Grand blew past Moffat 57-15 on the road. Given West Grand's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Moffat is ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Grand's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sage Wheatley, who scored 15 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Wheatley has scored at least 25% of West Grand's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Lechman, who scored 2 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals.
Despite the loss, Moffat still got an impressive performance from Paige Hammel, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Hammel scored a full 80% of Moffat's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
West Grand's victory bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Moffat, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2-1.
West Grand will take on Mancos at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mancos is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Moffat, they will head out on the road to face off against South Park at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
