Lytle hasn't had much luck against Cotulla recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Cowboys at 5:00 p.m. Lytle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Lytle gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Natalia. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
Claire Canales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Canales was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mikailah Mejia, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Payton Devaney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Lytle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Cotulla beat Hondo 9-6 on Tuesday. The Cowboys haven't had any issues with the Owls recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Christlyn Munoz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Sareen Ramirez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Eloyandra Zertuche, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Lytle's record is now 9-6-2. As for Cotulla, their record now sits at 7-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lytle has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cotulla struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
