After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Franklin County, Eastern was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Meade County Green Waves. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 win the Green Waves walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2025.
Ava Newell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Edie Kretzer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Sweasy, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
