Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Elbert County Blue Devils walked away with it. They won a match that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Trion 42-41. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Jayvyn Hickman had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 187 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Jacari Barnett also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Trion still got an impressive performance from Toby Maddux, who rushed for 313 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Maddux was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards.
Elbert County pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 9-3 Rabun County and 8-4 Mount Vernon (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.1% over those games). As for Trion, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-1.
Elbert County will face off against Swainsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Trion does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
