Lake Marion hasn't had much luck against Hampton County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Gators will welcome the Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Lake Marion beats Hampton County with 19 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Gators managed a 19-14 win over Barnwell on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Gators.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hampton County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Edisto 43-0. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Lake Marion better focus on containing Karinton Sabb and Nigil Fripp as the pair were huge in Hampton County's win. Sabb gained 109 total yards and two touchdowns, while Fripp rushed for 73 yards. Sabb didn't just play on offense: he also made one tackle and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Hampton County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 389 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 203 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.
One reason for the win was Hampton County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Cleavon Maxwell was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Gavin Polite was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making 12 total tackles (3.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.
Lake Marion picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Hampton County, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Lake Marion was dealt a bruising 39-7 loss at the hands of Hampton County when the teams last played back in October of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Gators were down 26-0.
