Two dominant guards in Sion Cleveland and Jason Scott are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lutheran North Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Westbury Christian Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lutheran North suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by St. Francis Episcopal at home and fell 82-51. Lutheran North was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-16.
Lutheran North's defeat came about despite a quality game from Cleveland, who scored 24 points along with seven assists and five steals. Cleveland has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Isaiah Greenhouse was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, Westbury Christian had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They claimed a resounding 82-43 win over First Baptist Christian at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Westbury Christian has posted against First Baptist Christian since February 9, 2021.
It was another big night for Scott, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 6 assists. He hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Mackey, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Lutheran North's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9. As for Westbury Christian, they now have a winning record of 14-13.
Lutheran North ended up a good deal behind Westbury Christian in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, losing 69-55. Can Lutheran North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
