The James Wood Colonels posted their closest win since December 12, 2023 on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Hampshire 40-37. That result was just more of the same for these two, as James Wood also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
James Wood was led to victory by Josie Russell and Brooklynn Medina. Russell scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Medina scored 18 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Medina has scored at least a third of James Wood's points. Nayah Edwards was another key contributor, scoring two points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
James Wood's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Hampshire, they dropped their record down to 6-7 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
James Wood's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st. Washington presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Colonels in their respective states (the Patriots are ranked 36th in West Virginia, while the Colonels are ranked 199th in Virginia). Hampshire will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on February 12th.
