Champion is 9-1 against Brookfield since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Golden Flashes will take on the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Champion has four straight wins, Brookfield has 11 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Champion is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Jefferson Area on Friday. Give the Golden Flashes' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Gabrielle Gradishar made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those RBI were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jonna Strock, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Taylor Rouan was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Champion was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Brookfield's offense. They lost 21-0 to Crestview on Tuesday.
Brookfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mya Jumper, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Champion pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.3 runs this season. As for Brookfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Brookfield's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Champion has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .467. It's a different story for Brookfield, though, as they've only averaged .286. Will they be able to contain Champion's hitters?
Champion took their victory against Brookfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Flashes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
