Irwin County has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They and the Coffee Trojans will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Irwin County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
Even though Irwin County has not done well against the Trojans recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Irwin County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 64-62 victory over the Trojans. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
It was another big night for Sam Guy, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Martin, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Irwin County's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Coffee, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.
Irwin County skirted past the Trojans 64-62 in their previous meeting on Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for Irwin County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
