Madi Whitley spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Austin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That home run was her first of the season. Saylor Edwards was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.
Meanwhile, Central Academy got the win against Lee Park Prep on Monday by a conclusive 17-2. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by ten runs or more this season.
Addison Crawford was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Crawford was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Siena Crawford was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Easterly, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.
Central Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
West Stanly's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Central Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Stanly hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405. However, it's not like Central Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .427. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Stanly beat Central Academy 5-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Does West Stanly have another victory up their sleeve, or will Central Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
