The Whitman-Hanson Regional Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Weymouth Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Whitman-Hanson Regional's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Weymouth's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Whitman-Hanson Regional is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Quincy get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Shea Cote looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Preston George and Jason Nye did most of the damage at the plate: George went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Nye went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three hits gave George a new career-high. John Walker also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Whitman-Hanson Regional was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Weymouth came out on top against Walpole on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Wildcats walked away with an 8-4 win over the Timberwolves. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
Liam Barr tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Weymouth let Alex Munchbach and Will Shanahan run wild. Munchbach got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Shanahan got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Danny Dreyfus, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Whitman-Hanson Regional has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Weymouth, their record is now 12-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Whitman-Hanson Regional has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Weymouth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Whitman-Hanson Regional might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Weymouth in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
