The South Granville Vikings are taking a road trip to challenge the Oxford Prep Griffins at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Granville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
South Granville came out on top against Louisburg on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run first inning. The Vikings' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 15-0 shutout. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Chaleigh Currin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Ayden Koonce also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Oxford Prep entered their tilt with Voyager Academy on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Griffins have posted against the Vikings since March 12, 2020.
South Granville pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Oxford Prep, their record now sits at 10-2.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Granville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .438. However, it's not like Oxford Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .362. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went South Granville's way against Oxford Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as South Granville made off with an 8-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
