Jailissa Begay was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Begay was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI.
In other batting news, Yonna Etcitty was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Ireland Shorty was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs.
Shiprock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .630. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Shiprock picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Thoreau, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
