The West Grand Mustangs lost against the Gilpin County Eagles back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. West Grand received a tough blow as they fell 56-41 to Gilpin County. West Grand has struggled against Gilpin County recently, as their game on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
West Grand's loss came despite strong showings from Sage Wheatley and Taylor Martinson. Wheatley scored 16 points, while Martinson scored 10 points.
Even though they lost, West Grand were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilpin County only pulled down five.
Gilpin County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was ELISE VINCENT out in front who scored 15 points along with 9 rebounds. KAILEE STARKEY was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
West Grand's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Gilpin County, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
West Grand will square off against Moffat at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Moffat focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 34 on Monday. As for Gilpin County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Flatirons Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Flatirons Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday.
