The Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs will head out on the road to square off against the Plainfield Quakers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Franklin Community's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 12 matchups.
Franklin Community only won by two when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 43-point they dealt Perry Meridian on Friday. Franklin Community breezed by Perry Meridian at home to the tune of 67-24. Given Franklin Community's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Perry Meridian is ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wyatt Nickleson was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points. Micah Davis was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Plainfield pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-58 to Greenwood.
Collin Schmidt put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 23 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Smith, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Franklin Community's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for Plainfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Franklin Community hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.9 points per game. However, it's not like Plainfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 63.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Franklin Community ended up a good deal behind Plainfield in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, losing 57-41. Thankfully for Franklin Community, Cooper Martin (who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
