Christian Brothers is 7-2 against Rio Americano since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Deakon Holden was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 305 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 90 yards. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 75 yards. Another player making a difference was Jay Cummings, who rushed for 175 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 10.3 yards per carry.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Christian Brothers was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Rio Americano was not quite Inderkum's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 20-17.
Loss or not, Rio Americano got some senior leadership from Ryder Trantham and Devin Pointes. Trantham threw for 135 yards and one TD, while Pointes picked up 114 receiving yards and one touchdown. The Raiders are 3-1 when Pointes posts 80 or more receiving yards, but 2-3 otherwise.
Rio Americano didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Robert Canterbury.
Christian Brothers' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Rio Americano, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Christian Brothers came up short against Rio Americano in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 7-3. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Raiders' Raymar Griffith, who rushed for 87 yards and one score on only eight carries. Now that the Falcons know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
