The Lathrop Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 64-40 defeat at the hands of Mountain House. While losing is never fun, Lathrop can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1002nd, while Mountain House is ranked 183rd).
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Reniel Crisostomo, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of January Murillo, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Jordan Assefa was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Coldin Parker, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Lathrop has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Mountain House, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.
Lathrop will be playing at home against Los Banos at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Mountain House on the road again on Friday and play against Ceres at 7:15 p.m. on January 19th. One thing working in Ceres' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches.
