The Wawasee Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Concord Minutemen at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Wawasee has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Wawasee's offense. They came up short against East Noble on Saturday, falling 12-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Concord had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Eagles. That's two games straight that the Minutemen have won by exactly ten runs.
Esmeralda Perez and Laela Moore did most of the damage at the plate: Perez went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Moore went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Moore a new career-high. Rheagan Stafford also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Concord always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Concord's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wawasee, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Wawasee hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Wawasee's way against Concord when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Wawasee made off with a 16-4 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Minutemen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
