Tularosa is a perfect 6-0 against Mescalero Apache since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Tularosa will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Mescalero Apache at 6:00 p.m. Tularosa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Tularosa fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Ruidoso on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 10-9. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Tularosa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ayden Esquero, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4. Cameron Holguin also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Mescalero Apache earned an 11-6 win over Jal on Saturday. The Chiefs haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Nathaniel Duffy was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Peyton Estrada was a standout: he scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Anthony Yuzos was another key player, scoring a run and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Tularosa's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mescalero Apache, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tularosa has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mescalero Apache struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Tularosa's way against Mescalero Apache in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Tularosa made off with a 17-6 victory. Does Tularosa have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mescalero Apache turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
