Tommy Lazzaro threw for six touchdowns as
Pine Creek (Colorado Springs, Colo.) bested Sand Creek (Colorado Springs, Colo.) 70-27 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a Lazzaro touchdown pass to
Scotty Savage in the first quarter, the Eagles led 42-14 at the half.
Pine Creek grew its lead to 36 points entering the fourth quarter. PC scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by Savage.
Lazzaro and Savage were an excellent passing duo during the game. Savage caught three touchdowns and Lazzaro threw six. Savage has now caught three touchdowns this season, while Lazzaro has thrown 10.
Pine Creek's most effective player was Lazzaro. The junior quarterback threw six touchdowns. He has now scored seven touchdowns on the season.
The Scorpions came in allowing just 12.2 points per game this season. Sand Creek struggled against Pine Creek's offense, which entered the game scoring 23.2 points per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 31-14 win for PC.
The loss comes after Sand Creek defeated Air Academy 42-6 last week. The win brought Pine Creek's winning streak to four games.
Sand Creek (5-2) will play a 4A Pikes Peak game against Rampart next week, while Pine Creek (5-2) will take on Ponderosa also in a 4A Pikes Peak game.
