The Sierra Linda Bulldogs had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 51-47 W over Independence on Thursday. The win was just what Sierra Linda needed coming off of a 66-14 defeat in their prior contest.
Sierra Linda's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mariana Mathis led the charge by scoring 17 points along with 7 steals. Shania Holmes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 10 steals.
Sierra Linda's victory bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Independence, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Sierra Linda won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against South Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on December 8th. As for Independence, they will head out on the road to face off against La Joya Community at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. La Joya Community comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 15 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
