The Washington Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Copper Canyon Aztecs at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Washington has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 9.
Washington came up short against Independence on Thursday, falling 12-3.
Washington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jasmine Salazar, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Copper Canyon not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9, 2025 (when they won 18-3). They were the clear victors by a 17-10 margin over Sierra Linda. With that win, the Aztecs brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Copper Canyon got a massive performance out of Marivel Robles, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Caswell, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.
Copper Canyon lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
The victory made it two in a row for Copper Canyon and bumps their season record up to 3-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Washington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .507. However, it's not like Copper Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Washington suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Copper Canyon when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
