Wilber-Clatonia is on a seven-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Sandy Creek a ten-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines will be home for the holidays to greet the Sandy Creek Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilber-Clatonia comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Saturday, Wilber-Clatonia was beaten by Superior 52-22. While losing is never fun, Wilber-Clatonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Superior is ranked 80th).
Meanwhile, Sandy Creek suffered a rough 51-27 defeat at the hands of Holdrege on Tuesday. Sandy Creek has struggled against Holdrege recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Sandy Creek's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Emma Fisher, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds, and Ryleigh Skalka who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Skalka scored a full 40.7% of Sandy Creek's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Wilber-Clatonia's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Sandy Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Wilber-Clatonia won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in December of 2022, slipping by Sandy Creek 53-52. Does Wilber-Clatonia have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sandy Creek turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
