Neumann-Goretti is 8-1 against St. Joseph's Prep since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Saints will host the Hawks at 4:00 p.m. The last five games Neumann-Goretti has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Thursday, Neumann-Goretti didn't have quite enough to beat Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic and fell 5-3.
Christian Meitzler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, St. Joseph's Prep's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Fordham Prep by a score of 8-7.
St. Joseph's Prep also got a good showing from Cole Blanch, who struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Furthermore, Blanch didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Michael Falcone was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Will Ward was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
St. Joseph's Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Neumann-Goretti, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Neumann-Goretti has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph's Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Neumann-Goretti's way against St. Joseph's Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Neumann-Goretti made off with a 13-1 win. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
