The Lake Country Lutheran Lightning had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They skirted past Edgewood 74-72. Given Lake Country Lutheran's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Edgewood is ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Sam Hans, who shot 5-for-11 from long range and dropped a double-double on 30 points and 21 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Leibham, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Lake Country Lutheran pushed their record up to 8-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 88.2 points per game. As for Edgewood, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Country Lutheran will square off against Milwaukee Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Edgewood won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Oregon at 7:15 p.m. on January 24th. Oregon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Edgewood likes a good challenge.
