Genoa Area had lost eight straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it nine. They lost 19-8 to the Maumee Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-4 back in April.
Maddie Bronowski made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Izzy Britt, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
As for Maumee, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
On Maumee's side, Julia Coutcher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Coutcher was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Jamie Brooks and Reign Hurt did most of the damage at the plate: Brooks went 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple, while Hurt went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Brooks a new career-high. Autumn Gugger was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Genoa Area will take on Eastwood at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Comets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Maumee, they will face off against Otsego at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
