Softball Game Preview: Leigh Longhorns vs. Branham Bruins

Leigh is 1-9 against Branham since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Longhorns will challenge the Bruins at 4:00 p.m. Branham took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Leigh, who comes in off a win.

Leigh is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Gilroy 15-9 on Thursday. The Longhorns not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27th (when they won 11-3).

Madison Oliver was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lucy Miller, who went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Leigh kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Branham fell victim to Gilroy and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 1-0. The Bruins have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Taylor Bugliarello spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.

Leigh's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12-1. As for Branham, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Branham's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leigh hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Branham, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Leigh's hitters?

Leigh suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Branham in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Longhorns avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
