The Oak Park-River Forest Huskies's 12-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Saturday. They really took it to Zion-Benton for the full four quarters, racking up a 51-24 victory on the road. Oak Park-River Forest's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Taylor Smith was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 11 points. Shardae Spruille was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Several Zee-Bees players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kennilyn Alexander, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her.
Oak Park-River Forest's victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-11. As for Zion-Benton, they bumped their record down to 2-13 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oak Park-River Forest will face off against Glenbard West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Glenbard West presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Oak Park-River Forest in Illinois (Glenbard West is ranked 30th, while Oak Park-River Forest is ranked 518th). As for Zion-Benton, they will head out on the road to face off against Harvard at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
