Basketball Recap: Franklin Community Starts Season with Win Against Mt. Vernon

Franklin Community gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They came out on top against the Mt. Vernon Marauders by a score of 43-36. This was payback for the Grizzly Cubs, who suffered a 40-32 loss the last time these two teams met.

Franklin Community's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hanna Stewart, who posted seven points and five boards. Izzy Stillabower was another key player, putting up eight points.

Despite the defeat, Mt. Vernon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zoey Wood put up 15 points and three steals. Wood has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kendra Ash, who scored eight points and five rebounds.

Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Franklin Community wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-55 defeat against Columbus North on the 8th. As for Mt. Vernon, they will face off against Roncalli at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
