5A Region II District 15 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Del Valle moved up to 407 from 444 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 15. A 54-17 win over Anderson helped the Cardinals improve their standing.
Westlake took down Akins 68-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Lake Travis's dynamic duo of Baker Mayfield and Tyler Payne proved tough for Bowie to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Mayfield threw for 177 yards and Payne had 66 yards receiving.
Josh Cleveland was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 227 yards as Del Valle defeated the Bulldogs. Teammate Chris Campbell added to the ground attack by rushing for 86 yards.
Lake Travis' Mayfield and Zach Austin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Mayfield has thrown for 1472 yards this season, while Austin has 17 catches for 428 yards. Courtney Wash's team's Cleveland leads the league in rushing yards with 950.
A big matchup in 5A Region II District 15 this week will be when Hank Carter's team takes on the Eagles. The Cavaliers are currently in first, while Akins is in seventh.
The Chaparrals led the league in scoring this week after putting up 68 points on Humberto Garza's team.
