With a playoff game on the line, the Corona del Mar Sea Kings rose to the challenge on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 win over Santa Barbara. The victory was familiar territory for Corona del Mar who now have three in a row.
Corona del Mar can attribute much of their success to Owen Sanders, who rushed for 48 yards and three touchdowns.
Santa Barbara's loss came despite strong showings from Abel Renteria and Kai Mault. Renteria threw for 238 yards and two touchdowns, while Mault picked up 154 receiving yards.
Corona del Mar's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Santa Barbara, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-3.
Corona del Mar will take on Yorba Linda at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Yorba Linda is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. Santa Barbara does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
