Softball Recap: Crete Extends Winning Streak to Three

Crete hadn't done well against Seward recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cardinals narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bluejays 6-4. Winning may never get old, but the Cardinals sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Madynn Dunham made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camry Draeger, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hayley Mattox, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

Crete kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

Crete's record is now 4-1. As for Seward, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Crete didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-6 victory against Fairbury on the 2nd. As for Seward, they have also already played their next game, a 9-1 loss against Norris on the 4th.
