Baseball Recap: Lamar Wins Going Away Against Salida

Lamar was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Salida on Saturday. The Thunder were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Spartans. Considering the Thunder have won seven matches by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Alex Williams made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Axton Morales was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Adriel Gonzalez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Lamar's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-6. As for Salida, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Lamar has already played their next contest, a 7-4 victory against Bennett on the 1st. As for Salida, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-0 win against Platte Canyon on the 30th.
