Having just played yesterday, the Pueblo Central Wildcats will get right back to it and host the Pueblo East Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Pueblo Central will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
On Monday, Pueblo Central ended up a good deal behind Harrison and lost 64-46.
Pueblo Central's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Xavier Davis, who scored 13 points along with two blocks, and Ladamien Davis who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Davis is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaime Enciso gonzalez, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Pueblo East had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 48-44 win over Pueblo West on Friday. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, as Pueblo East did.
Pueblo East can attribute much of their success to Jaden Garcia, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Izaiah Trujillo, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trujillo has scored all season. Maddox Villafon was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds.
Pueblo Central's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Pueblo East, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Pueblo Central have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Pueblo East, though, as they've been averaging only 26.9 rebounds per game. Given Pueblo Central's sizeable advantage in that area, Pueblo East will need to find a way to close that gap.
Pueblo Central beat Pueblo East 60-50 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Will Pueblo Central repeat their success, or does Pueblo East have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
