Paw Paw is 3-0 against Salisbury Elk Lick since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Paw Paw Pirates' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Salisbury Elk Lick Elks on December 29th. Hopefully Paw Paw focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Wednesday.
Paw Paw struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Wednesday (Mountain Ridge was 21% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. Paw Paw was dealt a 71-41 loss at the hands of Mountain Ridge. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Paw Paw came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 28th in West Virginia, while Mountain Ridge is ranked 230th in Maryland).
Despite the loss, Paw Paw had strong showings from Donavan Tanouye, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, and Greyson Corbett, who scored three points along with nine rebounds. The contest was Tanouye's eighth in a row with at least ten points.
Salisbury Elk Lick has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 20 points or more this season. They blew past Hancock 66-46. The win made it back-to-back wins for Salisbury Elk Lick.
Paw Paw's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Salisbury Elk Lick, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-3.
Paw Paw strolled past Salisbury Elk Lick in their previous meeting on December 13th by a score of 66-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Paw Paw since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
