The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jaidyn Wesley, who went 8 of 18 en route to 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Her evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Jahlaya Wilson was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards.
Even though they lost, Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Hilliard was fully in charge on Saturday, breezing past Lafayette 68-33. The Red Flashes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 25 points or more this season.
Madison County better focus on containing Alyssa Hallman and Justice Alderman as the pair were huge in Hilliard's win. Hallman went 6 for 12 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Alderman went 6 of 14 to rack up 16 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave Alderman a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Molly Dean, who posted nine points and eight steals.
Hilliard is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.1 points over those games. As for Madison County, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Madison County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Hilliard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Madison County strolled past Hilliard in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 49-33. Will Madison County repeat their success, or does Hilliard have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
